Quest Program

QUEST Program

At MCSS, the educational needs of Gifted and Talented students are met through QUEST classes. These classes offer a specially modified curriculum designed to extend and challenge like-minded students.

Students in QUEST classes may progress through the curriculum at an accelerated pace, allowing for deeper engagement with content and the development of higher order thinking skills.

In addition to academic enrichment, students benefit socially through structured enrichment activities and the opportunity to engage with peers who share similar interests and abilities.

In Years 7-9, students may be offered placements in QUEST in the core subjects Mathematics, Science, English and Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS). MCSS also recognises that students may be gifted and or talented in specific areas.

At MCSS a multi-faceted approach is taken for gifted and/or talented students.
This will include:

  • QUEST Academic Program - provides opportunities for academic excellence and curriculum acceleration beyond mainstream classes.
  • to continue their extension throughout their time at college.
  • QUEST Dance - The purpose of the QUEST Dance program is to provide a specialised and enriched learning experience for talented young dancers.
  • Talented Athletes Program (TAA) -  The TAA program was established to support athletes while studying at MCSS and to provide specialised learning opportunities.
  • Differentiation - Students formally identified as Gifted and Talented are supported through the school’s P Program processes, which include access to achievement standards above year level. This approach forms part of the school’s differentiated curriculum framework, ensuring that learners are appropriately challenged and supported to reach their full academic potential.
  • Grouping & Extension - at regular times, QUEST students will be taken out of the normal classroom setting and grouped with students of similar ability to undertake a challenging and educationally appropriate program to meet their specific needs.
  • School and ACT Wide Competitions - QUEST students are encouraged to participate in a range of Academic Competitions.
