About Us
Melba Copland Secondary School (MCSS) is a twin campus school that consists of a high school campus (7-10) and a college campus (11-12).
The Melba Copland High School campus offers a Fast Pace program for year 7 and 8 students who demonstrate above average academic achievement and are motivated, talented and hard working. Extension and enrichment programs are offered to year 9 and 10 students, with opportunities to participate in fast track transition programs held at the college campus. The 7 to 10 high school program is designed to help students achieve excellence in academic studies, the performing and creative arts and sporting pursuits. The Head Start program allows year 10 students to undertake a year 11 unit on the college campus in semester 2, and counts towards the participating student's year 12 certificate.
Vocational and Education Training (VET) and Australian School Based Apprenticeship programs (ASBAS) are supported by a team of experienced staff determined to establish high school options for students in year 9 and 10, as well as senior secondary college students.
The Melba Copland College Campus provides a challenging and motivating learning environment that supports students studying towards the ACT Year 12 Certificate. The academic program is complemented by a range of other programs including the Performing and Creative Arts Program, Vocational Education and Training, the Sports Development Program, the Pastoral Care Program and the College Freedom to Learn, Engage and EXcel (FLEX) Program. The college campus provides a significantly international perspective towards education.
The International Baccalaureate (IB) educational program is available for those college campus students who seek to develop their intellectual, personal, emotional and social skills to live, learn and work in a rapidly globalizing world. The IB is a pre-university course of study that leads to the award of a diploma or subject specific course certificate.
MCSS offers a unique and caring program for International Private Students (IPS) with students coming from China, Vietnam, Thailand, Pakistan, Brazil and European countries. Our IPS program caters for students in years 9 – 12, which assists the transition from high school to college. MCSS is the only college in the ACT to offer two coordinators who look after the international students by year group, one for year 11 and another for year 12.
School Board
The MCSS Board is an elected body with the responsibility to determine the educational policies to be implemented. The Board will also ensure that the provision of facilities, equipment and resources are maintained at appropriate levels and standards. Finally, the Board will oversee the annual budget of the school.
